08-14-03 – Lake County’s new school impact fees are going to be the
highest in the state but the School Board wants them
to be even higher.
The County Commission
approved the higher fees in May after months of debate over newcomers should pay toward providing classroom space for their children. The
impact fee will jump to $4,142.00 per house Oct. 1. Marion County has “NO SCHOOL IMPACT
FEE”!! and the School Board knows we are going to need to build some more schools soon. They are already out looking for land!
The Lake County School
Board members agreed Monday that the fee should go up once more. They say they waited too long last time to push the county for increased fees and to begin the process
of re-evaluating the fees, a process that could take a couple of years.
The new impact
fees are expected to raise about $15 million a year toward school construction. A five-year plan reviewed Monday indicated the board still would not have enough money to accommodate students
without a higher impact fee.

We are sorry but this might take a little longer to upload but it is well worth the wait if you want to
see what some other counties in Florida were collecting in IMPACT FEES in 1999 & 2001 compared
to Marion County. We are still collecting the impact fees for 2002 and
will have them soom.
